BCEIA2025 Exclusive Interview: Prof. Janusz Pawliszyn: SPME—a Microscale Technology with Sky-limit Applications

The 21st Beijing Conference and Exhibition on Instrumental Analysis (BCEIA 2025) is scheduled to be held on September 10-12, 2025 (9th Registration, 13th Adjourn for Academic Conference) at China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi Hall), Beijing. Adhering to the vision of “Analytical Science Creates Future”, BCEIA 2025 will continue to host academic conferences, forums, and exhibitions under the theme of “40 Years Prosperity, A New Era of Analytical Science”, welcoming and celebrating our 40th anniversary with all of BCEIA’s friends and partners.

In anticipation of BCEIA2025, the sponsor, China Association for Instrumental Analysis (CAIA), has specially arranged a series of exclusive interviews. Recently, we were honored to interview Professor Janusz Pawliszyn at the University of Waterloo. Prof. Pawliszyn is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Chemical Institute of Canada. He is one of the top analytical scientists in the world, as the inventor of solid-phase microextraction and imaged capillary isoelectric focusing. Both techniques have been successfully commercialized and adopted in various research and industry fields. He is the chief editor of Trends in Analytical Chemistry and Green Analytical Chemistry. He is one of the highest cited analytical chemists in the world with an H-index of 136, over 750 papers, and more than 83000 citations.

During the interview, Professor Pawliszyn shared valuable insights into his team's advancements in solid-phase microextraction technology.

Professor Pawliszyn shared his experience in participating in both NCASI 2024 (the 1st National Conference on Analytical Science and Instrumentationand BCEIA (Beijing Conference & Exhibition on Instrumental Analysis), organized by the China Association for Instrumental Analysis.

As BCEIA approaches its 40th anniversary, Professor Pawliszyn expressed his anticipation for BCEIA. His perspective will provide a unique viewpoint to BCEIA2025 attendees.
